Seniors Program

Aging is a natural part of life and The Arc Los Angeles and Orange Counties is committed to supporting our older participants so they may retire naturally with their peers, successfully and with dignity.

Our inclusive Seniors Program serves adults ages 50+ and enables them to function as independently as possible for as long as possible by keeping active in the community, nurturing friendships, and compensating for any age-related decline. To help meet the social, vocational, psychological, and physical needs of our participants, we facilitate access to an array of social and community outings such as senior centers, historical museums, movies, bowling, farmer’s markets, nature centers, etc.

Facilitators will work with participants to develop and hone skills such as:

  • Community Integration
  • Self-Advocacy
  • Fitness, Self-Care, Health, and Wellbeing

Services are individually tailored based on each participant’s choices and needs.

Keeping Active and Engaged is KEY

We strive to keep our Seniors active and engaged by:

  • Increased participation with peer interactions.
  • Regular access to enjoyable, meaningful participation in local community activities, senior services, spiritual activities, and leisure events.
  • An increased number of friends and natural supports.

The provision of the Seniors Program occurs in community-based settings chosen by participants based on their interests. The Arc LAOC maintains a resource library of local senior activities; community events and activities; classes and workshops; worship calendars for local churches, synagogues, fellowships, and mosques; and information for other life issues to assist each participant in choosing their schedule.

Transportation to and from activities and events is arranged by the Program Innovation Leader, with most outings using The Arc LAOC’s fleet of minivans.
