CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM
The need for self-expression is universal. Regardless of scale, medium, or audience, everybody needs an outlet. At The Arc LAOC, we encourage individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to express themselves through our Creative Arts Program. Our staff fosters an artistic environment with constructive and creative means for participants wishing to create their masterpieces.
The Creative Arts Program’s purpose is to support individuals with IDD interested in self-expression and creativity. Theory and practical application combine with education and exploration for an immersive arts experience. Participants experiment with a variety of media and genres in the classroom with guidance from The Arc LAOC’s staff.
The Importance of The Arts
The Creative Arts Program provides facilitation in The Arc LAOC’s Art Studio, including support, assistance, and training in various channels of the creative arts. The program focuses on art awareness, education, and skill development. Within the scope of activity, skill areas are addressed which increase self-sufficiency, interaction with others, and satisfaction in life.
Exploration of different art forms and techniques is encouraged. Media explored include:
- Visual arts
- Three-dimensional art
- Abstract art
- Craft art
- Electronic media art
- Performing arts, using a variety of tools, techniques, and styles
- Field trips to a variety of art-specific locations
Safety and cleanliness is required in all projects. Participants are encouraged to display their artwork at different venues when possible.
Outcomes Achieved
Every participant has the means to explore their talents and passions, identify their goals, and decide what they want to achieve in the world of The Arts. With the support of Arc LAOC staff, they work toward those goals, making progress in their chosen areas, and improvement is reviewed every six months. Objectives focus on learning and developing skills in the fine arts, socialization, and basic living skills. Participants embark on field trips to museums, nature sites, mural constructions, and other points of artistic interest in the community.
